Global warming 'underestimated'

The earth is NOT a closed-loop system. WTF? Of course it is. Look up into the sky during a cloudless day. Observe large ball of light pumping energy into the Earth's ecosystem. David |

Sure - the sun is an energy source feeding into the system but that does not make it a system without feedback. The sun is akin to a power supply driving any kind of electronic/electromechanical control system. |

Please describe the feedback mechanism by which the earth regulates the amount of energy the sun provides to it. |

The more cloud cover, the less energy makes it to the surface. Likewise snow. The radiation temperature of space, the night sky, is about -230C. That's where all the heat of the day goes on a clear night, and why the sun doesn't keep making Earth hotter. The sun warms the earth by 200 to nearly 300 degrees, so a fraction of a percent of change in absorption or radiation can make a large difference. |
