Dimpling, scratching, and otherwise defacing metal

Could I take chisels and the round end of a ball peen hammer, and other striking devices and make marks on the metal cold, or should I heat and soften it first? Steve I used to distress wood furniture by whacking it with 2 or 3-foot lengths of heavy iron chain. Gives nice random dimples. Would this work on small metal parts, maybe if you duct-taped them to an old sheet of plywood first? -Frank -- Here's some of my work: http://www.franksknives.com/ |
