Whitworth taps??
--Looking for a source to tap a special wheel retaining nut for a

Posted tap source to wrong poster so BSW http://www.tapdie.com/html/bsw__taps.html BSF http://www.tapdie.com/html/bsf__taps.html Any reason you can't get the part from a LandRover specialist, probably cheaper than buying the tap. |

Up to 1"x8 BSW are very reasonable from he- http://www.tracytools.com/tapsanddiesbsw.htm Probably even after shipping and the poorly dollar. If you need bigger, It is probably worth grinding a 55 degree internal tool and single pointing it. If it happened to be 1-1/8"x12, then you're looking at a Myford lathe mandrel :-) try these:- http://www.rdgtools.co.uk/acatalog/b..._AND_DIES.html OK, they are both UK. But you may still save money over locally sourced specials. Mark Rand RTFM |

Not much difference. |

Whitworth taps??
On Wed, 14 Nov 2007 15:50:22 +0800, with neither quill nor qualm,
David R Brooks quickly quoth: The Myford is (surprise!) non-standard. According to Machinery's Handbook, 1-1/8 BSW is 7 TPI, and 1-1/8 BSF is 9 TPI. Not much difference. It sure as hell is, if you try to put a 7tpi nut on a 9tpi shaft or vice-versa! g -- Real freedom lies in wildness, not in civilization. -- Charles Lindbergh |

Whitworth taps??
--Further details: here's what he's sent me as a reply:
It is none of those. It seems to be neither whitworth or BSF. It is 16 tpi and 1.610 inches diameter on the male. 1.610 seems a little small for 1 5/8 but there are not really any other likely sizes. I can look into this. I have both nuts and the male part available for use in making this thing. ------- --Anyone know what thread this might actually be? -- "Steamboat Ed" Haas : Whatever happened Hacking the Trailing Edge! : to Andy Philbrick? www.nmpproducts.com ---Decks a-wash in a sea of words--- |

Your guy got a couple small drill bits and a micrometer? Even a digital caliper. Three-wire measure the threads. Know for sure. Cheers Trevor Jones |
