IIRC it will depend a good deal on the ratio at the rear end, or the
overall available ratios, if you prefer. I was toying with an F450 at
one point, and was advised in a diesel support forum that I'd be very
unlikely to find an F450 that was not set up to be a fuel hog.

Depending on how much quality you require in a truck, and if you can wait a
couple of years, Toyota is working on a HD diesel truck.

Toyota has yet to understand what a truck is. This is shown by the
main complaint of the 07 Tundra (besides the recall)

If I can help it I will never own another Ford, and this from a guy who's
dad bought nothing but Fords for 30+ years.

I've got a '64 Ford 1 ton that will probably be running for another 50 years
but. . .

That stopped in '73 when he bought his last Ford, an F150 truck. It was a
dog from day one and Ford never could fix it. They couldn't even get the
amp gauge to work for more than a month.

I have a 91 Ford 1 ton diesel which I came to find out had a transmission
that is so bad that its next to impossible to find one that is still working
that hasn't been rebuilt.

I have an 02 Focus that Ford knows has a problem with the ignition lock but
they refuse to admit that it is a factory defect. The ignition will lock up
w/o warning. You go out to startyour car and the key just won't turn.

That car was the last straw for me and Ford.

Last good Ford was the one I learned to drive on. My present car has
the instrument cluster in the same sensible location.
