Default That "replacing the felt liner in a Kennedy tool chest" question again.

HI! I bought a used 7 drawer Kennedy chest on ebay, and the felt is
shot. I've already decided to use wool felt, but I'm still not sure
about what to tack it down with. I saw that this was brought up here a
couple of years ago, and I was wondering how the different methods have
held up so far.

Thanks! Bill

I think I'd use some of that spray adhesive you get in a large aerosol can.

I might have been the one to whom you are referring as having brought
this topic up.

Much as I hate to admit it, the box is still unpainted and sitting on
my bench. The can of spray adhesive is still on the shelf and the felt
is still in the bag from the fabric store. :-(

Beat wishes with your project.

Lewis.

Bill, I re-felted my Kennedy chest about 5 yrs ago and use 3M Contact
spray adhesive. I've been happy with it so far - no problems.

Bill,
I lined a draw with felt and used 3M spray adhesive on the back worked
great. I just applied it to the felt and not to the draw.

Thanks for the replies. Where can you find the spray adhesive, at a
craft store? I've never used the stuff before.

And just for your info, Kennedy does sell pre-cut felt kits for its
chests.

Thanks again!! Bill

I fail to see the point of gluing it down. Don't you have
enough tools yet to hold it in place ;-)

Seriously, I use a heavy vinyl like material with a cloth
backing and it stays in place just fine without any glue. Of
course maybe I'm missing something here and your not talking
about a shape cut square to fit only the bottom of the area
being done...

Felt wrinkles and slides when tools are shoved around.

I got 2 yards x 72" of felt for about 3 bux last week at Mill End
Fabrics, way more than enough for 7 drawers. I'm going to try
sticking the corners down with double-back carpet tape. If that
doesn't work then I'll try the spray on contact adhesive others have
recommended.

I haven't had that problem with the vinyl/cloth backed stuff
I used. It was something I scrounged from a friends odds &
ends box that used to teach 4H stuff.

Something that I have done that has worked well so far is to
use self stick Velcro "coins" for similar applications. Use
the hook portion only and maybe put one in each corner of
your box to start with and see how it goes.

I happened upon a bunch of veneer that was destined for th' round
file. Cut those to fit inside each tray and glued th' felt to it.
Worked great and I'm glad I didn't glue th' felt to th' tool tray
bottoms now.
