Has anybody made a duplicate spindle nose for L00? I'm considering
one mounted on a rotary table or in bearings to aid in setup on lathe faceplate. I've been turning my first 10+" flywheel today, which is going fine. Especially once you're through the skin on the casting. But being able to use a dial indicator with the faceplate mounted horizontally would be a boon when it comes time to flip the flywheel over to finish the other side. Pete Keillor |

Pete Keillor GACK!!...I suspect it would be much easier to find a parts lathe and pull the spindle to modify. I don't have any spare L00 spindles laying around. I might give it a try. Prussian blue, try, and adjust. I wouldn't need the key, although that wouldn't be too hard on the shaper with a relief hole at the back. Pete |

I just bought a Clausing 5914 with an L-00.
I was chatting with a buddy about doing a nose cover since I have the 4.5MT-5C sleeve but no cover and maybe making a L-00 male for some thing like you are talking about. For me if I decided to cut the keyway, I'd just jig it up on the Bridgeport and.... My buddy and I concluded it shouldn'y be too hard to dial in the compound to well under .0005 against the existing spindle and then have a go at either male or female parts. Gunners idea is pretty sound if you can find a junker head or spindle for next to nothing. Recently it seems a lot of lathes are being parted out and sold on e-bay.. ya might keep an eye out there. I just checked and all the spindles that are up right now are 2 /14 thread.. --.- Dave "Pete Keillor" wrote in message ... According to Dave August :
I just bought a Clausing 5914 with an L-00. I was chatting with a buddy about doing a nose cover since I have the 4.5MT-5C sleeve but no cover and maybe making a L-00 male for some thing like you are talking about. For me if I decided to cut the keyway, I'd just jig it up on the Bridgeport and.... Note that the cover can be aluminum (the one which I got from Royal with my 5C sleeve was), and it needs to go down to a small enough diameter so the locking collar can use it to jack the sleeve out of the spindle when it is time to shift back to a chuck. Other than that -- it only needs to be a good enough fit so it won't shake loose while you're turning.
