Anyone want to buy this machine? Or at least help me with it.
"Roper-Whitney No. 0585 Crimping And Beading Machine"
I tried to sell this elsewhere, and I never found any interested parties. I figured that I would receive better input at a metalworking-related group. I ask $500 dollars for it. Since it's practically new and has only been used for under an hour, I think that's fair considering its list price. If you guys are hostile to this kind of stuff, can you at least give me some suggestions? I'm desperate to get this off my hands! |

Put it on ebay with no reserve, and it will sell for approximately market value. If that isn't the number that's in your mind, then it's the number that's in your mind that's incorrect. If you buy something new and use it for an hour you shouldn't plan to sell it for nearly the new price. Why not? Because it isn't new. No warranty, no returnability, no selection, no building up a reputation with a distributor who can help you with parts support, no anything. I don't know what they cost new but if you were going to sell it to *me* I'd offer you about $130 for it if I had a use for it. But I don't. GWE |

If you bought it for say, $600, and drove it home, it is then worth $300 because it is used. It goes down from there. Steve |

I didn't buy it. I'm a middle-man. The retail price was $1,200.

Here are the specifications in PDF format:
http://shellc0der.net/instructions.pdf The item weighs approx. 51 pounds and will the shipped from Albany, GA, 31707. If you need any technical info on the machine, I have a phone number that you can call and speak to the owner. He's a nice guy. Unfortunately, unless I can borrow a digital camera, I don't have photos. Payment should be sent via Paypal or Western Union (although I seriously prefer paypal). Shipping costs will depend upon your location and are determined when calculating the total cost. If you have any special requests about that, just contact me. My email is ! Thanks for the interest. |

His asking price isn't unreasonable. It's for 20 ga steel, probably
too small for most of us anyway. Grant Erwin wrote: If you buy something new and use it for an hour you shouldn't plan to sell it for nearly the new price. Why not? Because it isn't new. Here is a link to the machine-
http://roperwhitney.com/beading/1-67.cfm Its a very specialised sheet metal tool- and Roper Whitney stuff, new, is not cheap. But used, the price goes way down, for several reasons. One- there are a ton of these used on the market- the basic design hasnt changed since 1900, and they dont wear out. Plus, there are probably 10 % or fewer manual sheet metal shops in the US today than there were even 40 years ago. So we have a lot of supply, and not much demand Two- this is a specialised roll- it has a shallow throat, and only takes a few dies- as opposed to the model everybody wants, the 622- which has a deep throat, and will bead, crimp, ogee, turn edges, and more. So most home metalshop guys want a 622, not a 585. In the old days, when these things cost 35 bucks, you would see a "tree" with 6 or 10 different types in every sheet metal shop- but at a grand a pop, you want one machine that will do it all, and this aint it. Three- cheapo chinese imports, once again. For $500, you can get a new import 622 clone, which has the advantage of being cheap, and doing it all. Four- in industry, these are obsolete- 90% of what used to be sheet metal is plastic now anyway- think buckets, or stereo cases- but industry uses CNC- nobody hand cranks anymore in any serious production environment- so your market is hobby types, and hobby types are cheap. But if you want to sell it, a better place than ebay, where you will get the bottom feeders, might be an ad in Snips, the sheet metal magazine- http://www.snipsmag.com/ Or on the metalshapers website- www.metalshapers.org |
