Unbubbled (metrology side of metalwork)
Hi all,
I acquired a few bits of metrology kit at auction yesterday. Mostly LS Starret stuff, calipers and such. A huge dial-indicator, and a genuine LSS tool makers button - 1 in. I've read of the use of such things, but never seen them for sale! One of the items is an LSS precision level. Sadly, the glass has been cracked and someone let the bubble escape. Does anyone know of a cheap source of bubbles (other than farting in the bath)? Or, more precisely, where can I get a replacment graduated phial? With-out it costing a weeks wages? |

Give Starret a call about reparing the level.
On the best precision levels, the vial is ground and lapped barrel shaped. -- J Miller "Nick Hull" wrote in message ... Have you tried a straight glass tube, it will bend a little if you keep force on it. -- Free men own guns, slaves don't www.geocities.com/CapitolHill/5357/ |

Thanks John, I shan't bother then :-( They are likely to charge
unspeakable amounts of money to even think about such a thing. Nick, how do you mean a straight glass tube? |

Unbubbled (metrology side of metalwork)
Ages ago there was a posting by someone who made their own (by grinding the
bore of commercial tube) and could make levels of almost unbelievable sensitivity. I expect Google would find it. |
