7018 rod storage
I store my 7018 rods in a PVC pipe, sealed at one end and a screw cap on
the other end. I place a packet of "Dry-Pak" desiccant in the bottom of PVC pipe as well as in the top. Seems to work well. I get these packets from my work place, we throw them away by the dozen, weekly. The packets measure 3-1/2 * 4-1/2 in size and contain about 3-4 oz perhaps??? Anybody need any? The opened packs I store in a plastic rod storage container made for storing welding rods. Just how bad is the issue of moisture in these rods if they are stored in sealed plastic tubular containers that are occasionally opened. I am not welding space vehicles or doing anything where 100% of strength is required or where life is at stake. Still, I would like to double check whether I am at risk of making completely worthless welds. thanks -- A7N8X-Deluxe, AMD XP2500+ (Un-locked) 2x256mb Crucial PC3200 DDR ram Palit-Daytona Ti4200/64M AGP |
