How about a lack of surplus funds? The average American has over 13,000. of

Yeah, that's one of the problems. Most Americans DON'T PLAN because the
are too busy getting what they want NOW cause 'I GOT CREDIT, I DON'T
HAVE TO WAIT".

You really should make up what mind you have. Flip a coin,
change the pig's lipstick, buy a harmonica & sing along, something.

Italy, Japan, Germany, pick your favorite.

I see. So FDR started a war, did he? Which war would that be, exactly?
We'll deal with the threats once you tell me what war you're thinking
of.

FDR declared war on Germany IRRC. And of course..we had been attacking
German Uboats for well over a year prior to 1941

Actually Hitler declared war on the US on the morning of December 11. The
US reciprocated later that same day.

Yep, it's called a typo. A mistake. Probably not unlike yourself.

Why, I'm a RIGHT winger, of course. Call me a winger, what ever. I'm
not a shrubbie tho.
Do I like the current adminstration? Well, it's better than the last
one, and the Presidents first term was a lot better than this one so
far, but President Bush could be a LOT more conservative than he is,
and we'd be a lot better off. Seems he's too busy trying to appease the
wrong wingers. He needs to take a stand, push the real conservative
agenda we put him there to push, and stop courting the lefties.

You are right. Cell phone service can be cheaper than landline
especially if you do a lot of long distance calling and do service work
at various customer locations. But I doubt that your daughter has a
cell phone, although many high school kids do.

says...

Ah, surpise, Dan. She does. What's up with that, eh?

Because she commutes via train to high school, it's really
a handy item to make her trip home in the evening go smoothly.
There are plenty of times she discovers that she's going to
be staying late and a quick call means nobody's left
waiting on the station platform. Her school of course has
a "no phones" policy, so that means going outside to make
the call.

This past summer I swiped her phone because I was spending
a huge amount of time commuting back and forth to northern
NJ because my mom was real sick, several hospitalizations,
a bunch of crisis situations, and then an extended stay in
a nursing home. It was invaluable to have that phone to
report back to family members whenever her condition changed.

I'm happy to say that my daughter's phone is now back
doing its former function.

Yeah Brother!

For those less informed about fiscal responsibility who are swimming in
debt and see the only way out as some entitlement program, there are
hundreds of people every day who kick the debt habit, and I don't just
mean those with 100K incomes. I'm talking families with 30K incomes
getting rid of 50K plus debt in a few years. It's amazing how getting
rid of debt changes your life.

When you're no longer a slave to your (creditors) money, you're free,
and I'll be damned if some lib-tard entitlement program is going to
slap a yoke on me.

I used to work with a kid at Ingersoll-Rand. He lived in Berkley CA.
Had a wife and three kids. Owned a 3 bedroom home in a pretty good
neighborhood and used to laugh his ass off at the statistics that
said he had to make $100,000 minimum to do it (probably made closer to
$45,000). They didn't buy anything they didn't need and when they
needed it they paid for it. He had good medical and other benefits,
but he worked for it. My step-daughter and her husband are on the
same basis. He is a young teacher and makes about $35,000 a year.
They own a nice home, have a late model Subaru station wagon and a new
Chevy Colorado. No credit cards, no car payments etc. They do owe
about $50,000 on the house which is worth about $200,000, but that's
it. If they don't have the cash they just do without and save until
they do. That attitude is hard to find anymore.

It's pretty amazing what that attitude can do, isn't it. I see it all
over the place. One of the things I do as service is provide
debt/budget counselling and help those in my area who want to get out
put the plan together to do it. They have to be willing to do it, just
as my wife and I did after an unfortunate circumstance with my business
took our home, cars, savings, etc back in 98.

Some do it, some don't. Some get started then as soon as they can
breath a little, they end up getting 'stuff lust' for something,
whether it's a car, plasma tv, cruise, etc. Then the end up deeper than
they were before.

There was one lady, she bounced 3 times before it stuck. Now she's debt
free, got a nice chunk set aside for when she retires, and her home is
all paid for. She got rid of $60K in 3 years on 40K/year and managed to
put 15K into an emergency fund.

I am a little surprised, but can understand. For one thing it is
getting harder and harder to find pay phones as more people use cell
phones.

Curiously enough, I've noticed that most folks, complete strangers,
will gladly offer you their cell just by asking if they know where a
pay phone is. Seems everyone's got tons of free minutes and they wear
it like a badge or somethin'.
