Default OT- Opinions and the need to be heard

One of the most popular new scams on the internet is the
" get paid for your opinion" - It seems that people are so desperate to be
heard that they will actually pay these con men in hopes of being noticed.
If you read this newsgroup, you will find a similar situation in guys
responding to every message just so they can post their own philosophy which
is usually some coffee table quotation attached as part of their signature.
Having said all that, I guess that makes me part of the " I want to be
noticed" herd as well.

Being the exception to the rule and with full knowledge that my opinions
have real value, I can only conclude that you suffer from " attention
deficit disorder".

I own a website algebra.com. Recently, about 4 months ago, I put in a
system where students can submit algebra questions and problems, and
people can register as free tutors and solve those submitted
problems. Solved problems stay on the website, tutors have "scores",
students send "thank you notes" to students, etc.

Besides that, they can submit lessons.

You'd think that I was out of my mind to put this together. Why would
people "waste" their time answering algebra questions for free, or
posting their lessons on someone else's website?

The reality is that there are many people now are desperate to share
their knowledge and competence, especially if they are tickled with
thank you notes, links to their websites on my popular site, etc.

People tell me that they are addicted to my tutoring system. I am also
somewhat addicted.

So, the drive of people to share their knowledge and to show their
competence is very strong.

Well done!

Yep! And for lots of reasons. Personally, I feel I owe it to others, due
in part to the great tutoring I received by those that went before me.
It's almost an obligation to "pass it on" as far as I'm concerned.
Working to that end, I have made, what I feel are, some very good friends,
here and elsewhere.

It's almost like family.

No, not almost, it's exactly like family, including a few you just don't
like.

Keep that up and you won't be an Ignoramus for much longer
It is the bes thing about the Net - the amount of knowledge and expertise
that people are willing to give away. Whatever you are into, someone out
there has made it their life's work to study it in detail.
