Default 70 series Kenmore washer

Softener dispenser. Washer is approx 20 years old. Serial 267126712. Dispenser is not working properly and clothes are no soft as before and very wrinkled. Regular cleaning of dispenser. Not clogged. Use Downey and Tide liquid, cold water. I think softener trickles out when clean water is filling. Too old or can it be fixed?

You say not clogged but can you see the entire path? Could it be
blocked where it actually drains? If the dispenser is empty you can be
sure it is getting to the clothes but perhaps not at the right time.

Or, could be the opposite problem.
Is it leaking out during the wash cycle? The seal or gasket can be gone
and letting it leak by and wasted before the rinse.

Try poring water in the dispenser and letting it just sit a while and
see if it is gone after 15 to 30 minutes. That would confirm a leak.
Can it be fixed? If the part is available, yes. Figure $100 to $150
for a service call. Is it worth investing that in a 20 year old
machine? Could last another 20 years or could die next week.

Find a parts diagram online at one of the parts stores and see if you can figure out
how it's supposed to work, what might be wrong and how it comes apart to fix.
