you set it for 350 but , it just keeps getting hotter and hotter , until it reaches at least 500 degrees Likely the thermostat has failed. Does it click when you go thru the current temp the oven is at ? |

That the heat being turned on and off. If it doesnt click, that usually indicates that the thermostat has failed. Thats with an analog/non digital electric oven. |

Likely the thermostat has failed. Does it click when you go thru the current temp the oven is at ? i'm not understanding your question , does it click Electric or gas? The method of temperature control (on standard consumer level ovens) is based on the thermostat turning the heating elements (electric) or the gas flame (gas...) on and off. In other words, the heating is an on/off deal, with no modulation. So once the desired temperature is reached, the system shuts down. After it drops 15 degrees (nominal...) it comes back on. Electric controls tend to use a relay that makes a noticable click. Gas ones tend to be gentler. Note these are the most common types. More expensive ones may have other methods. -- __________________________________________________ ___ Knowledge may be power, but communications is the key [to foil spammers, my address has been double rot-13 encoded] |

Get yourself a covered oven safe pot, a cheap/tough cut of beef, pop the two in the oven (covered), bring it up to 500, turn it off as soon as it hits temperature, leave the oven closed for 8 hours. NO PEEKING! If it works (I have only had it work once), you have a delicious, tender cut of meat and might not want to fix your oven. If not, you will have a fun story to tell. :-) |

Those digital control boards are about $260. Maybe it's just a $20 temp sensor. |
