you set it for 350 but ,
it just keeps getting hotter and hotter ,
until it reaches at least 500 degrees

Not to ask too stupid a question, but could you
possibly have it on the self cleaning cycle by
accident?

i never looked , hold on a sec ,
apparently it doesn't have that feature
it's an inglis about 10 years old

Time to get a repair manual and replace some parts!

yea i was thinking that's likely what's going to happen ,
and it's really hard to get parts here i live in a ,
geological odyssey i'm 2 weeks away from everywhere ,
but thanks for the time and suggestion

Here is an idea whilst you wait for parts. Get yourself
a covered oven safe pot, a cheap/tough cut of beef,
pop the two in the oven (covered), bring it up to 500,
turn it off as soon as it hits temperature, leave the
oven closed for 8 hours. NO PEEKING!

If it works (I have only had it work once), you have a
delicious, tender cut of meat and might not want to
fix your oven. If not, you will have a fun story to tell.
