Rail fares to rise by 3.1% in January
Another success for privatisation. "Alex Hayman of consumer group Which? said these price rises would only add to passengers' misery after a year of timetable chaos, with rail punctuality falling to its lowest level in 12 years. "Value for money needs to be a key part of the upcoming government review and passengers must receive automatic compensation for delays and cancellations," he said. Unions also took aim at the price hikes, with RMT general secretary Mick Cash calling them "another kick in the teeth for passengers on Britain's rip-off privatised railways". It meant UK passengers will pay the highest fares in Europe. "That is nothing short of a disgrace," he added." https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-46387030 Sent from my iFurryUnderbelly. -- p-0.0-h the cat Internet Terrorist, Mass sock puppeteer, Agent provocateur, Gutter rat, Devil incarnate, Linux user#666, ******* hacker, Resident evil, Monkey Boy, Certifiable criminal, Spineless cowardly scum, textbook Psychopath, the SCOURGE, l33t p00h d3 tr0ll, p00h == lam3r, p00h == tr0ll, troll infme, the OVERCAT [The BEARPAIR are dead, and we are its murderers], lowlife troll, shyster [pending approval by STATE_TERROR], cripple, sociopath, kook, smug prick, smartarse, arsehole, moron, idiot, imbecile, snittish scumbag, liar, total ******* retard, shill, pooh-seur, scouringerer, jumped up chav, punk ass dole whore troll, no nothing innumerate religious maniac, lycanthropic schizotypal lesbian, the most complete ignoid, joker, and furball. Dont they understand that the prices of three week holidays in the Seychelles have risen a lot since last year, and without a significant increase in Train Operating Company profits and senior staff dividends, the management might be forced to slum it with the plebs in Torremolinos in 2019. This rise simply ensures that those who matter in this world are kept well away from the billions who do not. |

When I was working in Ft. Wayne I took the train up to Chicago a couple of times and enjoyed it. It wasn't as plush as the cars on the northeast corridor but it worked reasonably well. I'd taken the train from Albany to NYC a few times in the '60s and it was a real crap shoot. I wouldn't mind taking the train to Seattle but I'd have to drive about 100 miles first. We've got the tracks and even have two old train stations but passenger service is long gone. One of the stations is now the Boone & Crockett club's HQ. I worked for the Penn Central briefly when they were going down the tubes. You know it's good when you have to have enough money in your account to cover the check before the bank will cash your paycheck. |
