I'm trying to remove an old (but not push-button) GE Spacemaker
microwave/range-hood. I removed the 4 bolts holding it from the cabinet
above. However it will not budge. The top can be forced down a little
1/8", but it is still attached solidly. It will not slide out
horizontally, and I don't see any access panels apart from the guts of the
appliance itself. Suggestions?

Try raising the back of the unit toward the cabinet. Many of these units are
hung on hooked mounting plates fastened to the wall. The hooks are on the
bottom edge of the plate, and go into slots in the rear edge of the unit.

I removed mine a long time ago. As I recall I had to remove the filters and
then you will see some attachments on the back of the hood against the wall.

Be warned: it is also possible that at some point during the
uninstallation you will be instructed to reboot the Microhood then allow
the Microhood Uninstaller to continue its work; BUT when you reboot the
Microhood, the Microhood Uninstaller will refuse to run, leaving you
with a Microhood that will neither run nor uninstall completely.

In that case, the only thing to do is reformat your Microhood, then
install Microhood XPletive deleted (a Full version, not an Upgrade,
because now there will be no trace of the previous version left) and
hope that it works better.

Some units hand on a wall bracket as mentioned above but also have two long
screws about 18 inches long that go from the front bottom of unit to the top on

I've heard that sometimes you have to reformat the entire house. Of course,
all furniture and clothing and towels are lost.

I do believe you have tried to uninstall a Microhood. That was my experience
entirely. I had to reform the entire house. My house formatter, SWMBO,
charges plenty too.

there's probably a sheet metal bracket of some sort still hardmounted to the
wall (or some other solid thing). try sliding it in different directions
(usually up works).
