I live in a Queen Anne house in the south, and I'm getting a guest bathroom
restored. I already have had 3 layers of linoleum taken off the floor to
reveal parquet, and godknowshowmany layers of paint plus thin board "faux tile"
off the walls to get down to the original beadboard, which alternates flat and
reeded boards of either heart pine or cedar. Some of the boards were cut out
wholly or partially for various reasons, so they have to be custom milled or
found. (The first person who worked on the bathroom didn't know what he was
doing as far as the carpentry side--wrenched boards out and broke quarter
rounds, etc.)The new restorer--who is a talented jack of all trades, according
to his references, not a specialist--wants to charge me $3000 for installing c.
30 new boards, staining them to match the originals, replace and paint some
bases, caps and quarter rounds. Does the price sound excessive?
