Default OT New watch?

My old Casio watch, on its second battery, was a half hour slow when I woke
up this morning. New battery or new watch? In the past, when battery failed
the watches stopped.

TIA

I guess that depends partly on how old the battery is. If it's several
years old, probably the battery. If it's two months, then probably the
watch.

I've stopped buying watches that need batteries. My every-day watch,
travel watch and wife's travel watch are all Casio solar models. This
after two previous experiences when battery operated watches had the
battery die at incredibly inconvenient times. Both Casio and Timex make
inexpensive solar digital watches that don't cost more or much more than
the cost of a cheap conventional battery powered watch plus the likely
cost of 2-4 battery changes for the conventional watch. The oldest of
my solar watches is 12 years old and never needed any service or repair.

I've got an equally old solar atomic watch. Bit heavier than old Timex
I wear but nice to know it is always on and correct to the second.

Watches are cheap unless you are looking for jewelry. I'm tossing my old
Timex when battery dies.

I have never been a fan of watches. I never found them comfortable or
necessary (for me).

When I was a kid, growing up in NYC, I looked at it this way:

"There are enough people around that wear watches and there are enough
public clocks that I'm never more than a minute away from knowing what
time it is."

Now that I'm older:

For the past decade or so, my cell phone has served me well. I currently
use the alarm app on my phone 3 - 4 times a day. Alarm clock, medications,
reminders, etc.

Personally, I see no reason for watches, but obviously "to each his own".

I hate watches and clocks. Stopped wearing a watch at age 50.... 'I
get there when I get there.'

....same with ringing phones. G

Well, other than possibly inconveniencing the people that are waiting for
you, I guess that's one way to go through life.

Maybe going back on the Ritalin might help your excessive comments? You've already made *your* statement.

I guess it was your 'I get there when I get there' comment. It implies
(but only implies) a bit of nonchalance as far as schedules go.

Since you seem to have your timing under control, I take back everything
I said. :-)

BTW...being "late" and "missing an appointment" are 2 very different things
but I'll give you the benefit of the doubt here and assume you are equating
them. ;-)

Oddly, since then the Casio has kept perfect time. I'm wearing it again.
Wonder why it lost a half hour? Never had that happen to a battery watch.

Maybe the battery contacts are corroded. Clean them (and the battery)
with a pencil eraser.

Lost another a half hour last night. Wonder why 30 minutes both times?
Odd coincidence.

Guess new watch time. Have to look when I go to Walmart for groceries
Saturday afternoon.

How do you get the back off?

Your guess is as good as mine. Probably take it to a store that sells
watches and have them do it. I recall trying to get the back off of one,
when I was still in high school (ages ago). I finally took it to a store
and let them do it. I think they did it for no cost with the purchase of
a battery. But that was in the 1960's. Who knows what they charge now. I
have not worn a watch since high school. They always got broke or
snagged on stuff when I did home or auto repair, and ended up scratched,
damaged, or completely destroyed. With cellphones now, I dont see many
people still wearing watches anymore. But if you like them, I'm sure you
will find a way to open yours or buy a new one.

If you can get the back off, do try the pencil eraser. I recently had
one of those solar sidewalk lights stop working, and I just bought it a
month before. I took out 3 screws, and found the battery contact was all
discolored. The battery was not leaking, so it appears to have been made
with the "filthy" contact. I use the eraser and that light has worked
fine ever since.

Too bad they dont make watches easier to open.....

The clocks stop while the government is watching you and scanning your
house and contents. Usually only happens once a quarter unless they
have reason to watch you more closely.

New watch if affordable. I just had a Relic lose an hour. I needed a blue/black watch to match my wear so I opted for a Timex Expedition for under 30 bucks delivered.
I have an extensive watch collection from opting out of buying batteries. When the watch price exceeds lazy, I get a new battery. Usually 10 or so watches at once.
