Default Pool pump problem

Any experts on pool pumps? D/t the VAST amounts of water, the pump's
GFI keeps popping. The other things like the pool light, auto cover and
the plugs are working so I know it is only the pump. I am thinking
about trying to dry it out using fans or maybe a hair drier but I am not
really sure where to aim it. I obviously need to get the pump working
ASAP. Any suggestions?

Just some general advice: Check/redo the wiring connections. There
are
silicone filled wire nuts available if corrosion in the motor junction box
might be an issue. The wire nuts are made for underground wire splicing.
Ace
Hardware should have some. Loosen and retighten any other wiring
connections
leading to the pump.

Post a link to the pump model and/or schematic.

I'd turn off the breaker and check for loose wire on the motor as a
first suggestion.

So, the pump is the only load on that GFI? GFI is a breaker type?

First I'd disconnect the wires at the load side of GFCI, see if it will
reset and hold. If it does, then I'd probably disconnect the wires
at the pump, reconnect the wires at the GFCI and see if it holds.
If it does, then you know it's the pump. Water in the pump doesn't
sound good. Where is the pump, outdoors? Typical pool pump
is designed to be out in the rain without water getting in. And
if water does get in, probably hard to get it out with just a
heat fan or similar.

I've replaced pool pump motors before that failed due to insulation breaking down in the motor winding. I used a regular multi-meter first to check the winding for shorts then my megger to test the winding insulation for electrical leakage to ground. Electrical leakage to ground from inside the motor will trip a ground fault receptacle/breaker. Most of the motors I've replaced had burnt windings but a few had electrical leakage to ground from a short to the motor housing which made it a shock hazard. 8-)

We've gotten something like 5 inches of rain over less than a week.
Normal rain, doesn't cause any problems. All else was tried, thanks
anyway.
