US B1 Bomber drops load, Kills 5 american Special Ops solderiers inAfghanistan
So this will probably not be the "Good News"(tm) story chosen by US
broadcast networks to end their dinner-time evening newscast today. So - does this mean that Seal Team 6 (that found and extracted Bin Laden from Pakystan) are now all dead? Or were they already eliminated before this fine example of precision ordinance deployment? Too bad all the blood and treasure you spilled in Iraq and Afghanistan was for nothing. ------------ http://online.wsj.com/articles/milit...raq-1402387098 Islamist insurgents seized control of Iraq's second-largest city on Tuesday in a brazen military operation that underscored the weakness of the central government across vast swaths of the country. ------------- You went in and raped Iraq, left it a shell unable to re-establish itself politically or defend itself from terrorists, and now it's disintigrating. None of that would have happened if you left Hussein in power. ================================================ Friendly Fire Strike Kills 5 Special Operations Soldiers in Afghanistan By AZAM AHMEDJUNE 10, 2014 KABUL, Afghanistan — Five American Special Operations service members and at least one Afghan soldier were killed when a United States Air Force B-1 bomber unleashed an airstrike on their position in southern Afghanistan, in one of the deadliest instances of friendly fire in more than a decade of war, Afghan and American officials said Tuesday. Investigators were looking into possible causes, including faulty coordinates, an errant bomb or other human error. The Pentagon press secretary, Rear Adm. John Kirby, said in a statement that five American soldiers had been killed “during a security operation in southern Afghanistan.” “Investigators are looking into the likelihood that friendly fire was the cause,” he added. “Our thoughts and prayers are with the families of these fallen.” Continue reading the main story Related Coverage The deaths happened Monday night in the restive Arghandab district of Zabul Province, where troops were conducting security operations connected to the presidential runoff election on Saturday, said Ghulam Sakhi Roghliwanai, the province’s police chief. http://www.nytimes.com/2014/06/11/wo...ghanistan.html |

US B1 Bomber drops load, Kills 5 american Special Ops solderiers in Afghanistan
This inaccurate and error prone high altitude bombing by "stealth"
aircraft has been a well known problem for a long time. Only difference was that in the past it was innocent indigenous poor folks in these foreign countries getting blow up by mistake instead of our own troops. It will only get worse when they retire the A-10s and start rolling out the F-35s. The F35s are so expensive they will never let them bomb or fire near the ground where they can see their targets to ID them for fear the plane will get shoot down. The idiot policy makers are forcing teh retirement of the A10s and replacing them with the F35's in spite of this problem as well at the dozens and dozens of other problems with the F35, not to mention it's outrageous cost per plane. But hey, gottta keep that industrial military complex in the chips, who cares what it costs or how well it works. This inaccurate and error prone high altitude bombing by "stealth" aircraft has been a well known problem for a long time. That is simply not true. First, the B1 is not a stealth bomber, it's a conventional design, visible to radar. The B2 is the stealth bomber. Second, JDAM bombs have been used now for a long time and can be used with either of these aircraft. They can even be used with a B52. A JDAM is a precision guided bomb that combines GPS and inertial navigation to give an accuracy of 25ft. It's the bomb, not the plane. I didn't see anything in the news that specifically identified the weapon actually used in this incident, but since it was to provide support to nearby US forces, it almost certainly was a JDAM or similar high accuracy weapon. It would be criminal to drop a non-guided weapon anywhere near friendlies. The news reports said an investigation was underway to determine the cause, which they even spelled out could be a malfunction of the weapon. If you have a source that says that a dumb bomb was dropped, I'd like to see it. Only difference was that in the past it was innocent indigenous poor folks in these foreign countries getting blow up by mistake instead of our own troops. Now you're lying. In the case of civilians, we've always done everything possible to limit collateral damage. And that includes not using dumb bombs in those areas too. Or not bombing at all, because the risk is too great. War is never going to be pretty, but we've done an excellent job of limiting civilian and friendly casualties. In recent wars, they've been a tiny fraction compared to precious wars due to advances in technology. The number of civilians killed by US bombs in Iraq and Afghanistan is small. That's the difference. We value human life and do everything we can to protect innocents. For the other approach, why don't you look at our enemies? In particular, with the ISIS muslim scum having just executed 1700 Iraqi soldiers in a ditch, it's a particularly odd time to be bitching about a rare US incident where friendly fire killed 5 of our own. It will only get worse when they retire the A-10s and start rolling out the F-35s. The F35s are so expensive they will never let them bomb or fire near the ground where they can see their targets to ID them for fear the plane will get shoot down. You're pontificating on defense weaponry and you obviously don't even know what a B1 bomber is, or that precision weapons today are, to a large extent, independent of the vehicle. Anyone who even watched the footage of the first Gulf War knows better. Even a 50+ year old B52 can put a cruise missle through a window 500 miles away or drop a JDAM straight into a bunker. |
