Default Alarm?

I am caregiver to my disabled wife. I am having a problem remembering
to give her the meds at night.

Is there an alarm, perhaps in the computer, that can be set to go off
every night? Manually setting an alarm to remind me just adds another
thing that I could forget.

I'm pretty computer illiterate so if there is such an alarm there, be
specific as to where.

Get a $5 digital watch at the apothecary, they have alarms in
them.

Cell phones almost all have alarms in them now that can be set
to repeat daily. I would think googling you'd find some free apps
for the PC as well.

I have a $20 digital alarm clock from Radio Shack that has a "reset"
button, not a switch, to silence the alarm. It stays set for the next
day. There is a separate "snooze" button, and on-off switch.

It is Cat# 63-117, may have been replaced by cat# 63-453

You can schedule a daily task to call a sound file.

http://www.vistax64.com/vista-general/72718-task-schedeuler-play-sound.html

Look for a free alarm sound file on the web.
....

From Windows 7: (Help File)

Schedule a task

You must be logged on as an administrator to perform these steps. If
you aren't logged on as an administrator, you can only change settings
that apply to your user account.

If you use a specific program on a regular basis, you can use the Task
Scheduler wizard to create a task that opens the program for you
automatically according to the schedule you choose. For example, if
you use a financial program on a certain day each month, you can
schedule a task that opens the program automatically to avoid the risk
of forgetting to open it yourself.

Click to open Task Scheduler.? If you're prompted for an
administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide
confirmation.

Click the Action menu, and then click Create Basic Task.

Type a name for the task and an optional description, and then click
Next.

Do one of the following:

To select a schedule based on the calendar, click Daily, Weekly,
Monthly, or One time, click Next; specify the schedule you want to
use, and then click Next.

To select a schedule based on common recurring events, click When the
computer starts or When I log on, and then click Next.

To select a schedule based on specific events, click When a specific
event is logged, click Next; specify the event log and other
information using the drop-down lists, and then click Next.

To schedule a program to start automatically, click Start a program,
and then click Next.

Click Browse to find the program you want to start, and then click
Next.

Click Finish.

To schedule a task to run automatically when the computer starts
If you want a task to run when the computer starts, whether a user is
logged on or not, follow these steps.

Click to open Task Scheduler.? If you're prompted for an
administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide
confirmation.

Click the Action menu, and then click Create Basic Task.

Type a name for the task and an optional description, and then click
Next.

Click When the computer starts, and then click Next.

To schedule a program to start automatically, click Start a program,
and then click Next.

Click Browse to find the program you want to start, and then click
Next.

Select the Open the Properties dialog for this task when I click
Finish check box and click Finish.

In the Properties dialog box, select Run whether user is logged on or
not, and then click OK.

Note
Task Scheduler is a Microsoft Management Console (MMC) snap-in and
includes additional help for advanced users. For more information,
open Task Scheduler, click the Help menu, and then click Help Topics.

Are you using a daily holder for the meds? That makes it simpler to
keep track of which dose has/has not been adminstered...simply look to see.

The reminder alarm isn't bad; only the dispenser is more certain as to
dosages, etc., ...

http://www.amazon.com/Fit-Healthy-Organizer-3-5x11-2-Inches/dp/B003UWFAGY/ref=pd_sim_sbs_hpc_4

And, of course, there are any number of automated dispensers or manual
w/ builtin in alarms, etc., if want to get more involved. Most aren't
particularly expensive...

if you have a cell phone, you can set a number of repeating alarms in
it. I use mine to remind me of trash day, certain payments, tv shows, etc.

I have a somewhat irregular schedule (alarm at 4:30AM M, 7:00AM TWTF, none SS)
and found that the alarm on my cell phone works great for this. I also added
an alarm for 4:00PM Fiday to make sure I send in my time card, which I fill
out immediately wherever I am, using the cell phone - no missed paychecks ;-).

Simple Reminder works on any windows (XP and above) computer. Can set up
reminders for all sorts of things and attach a different sound to each
reminder. Software is freeware.

I think a cell phone alarm is better, unless you stay by your computer
all day and night. You are more likely to have your cellphone with
you than you are to have your computer with you.

DThanks to everybody - looks like there are multiple ways to do it.
I'llprobably go with this one but for sure will be poking around in
the task scheduler.

Yes I use one. Set them up a week at a time. Still forget to use it
occasionaly. I'll check at the pharmacy to see if they have one with
an alarm.

Now _that_ is the way I need 'how to' on a computer. Thank you, I'll
be trying it.

You're welcome. This link is a great resource. When I moved to
