Default Misidentified firearm causes panic response

"“On March 14, a Vineland [New Jersey] Municipal Utility meter reader was
reading meters near the Winslow School and St. Isidore’s day care in
Vineland. The meter reader was using an automated electronic device to read
water meters. This device is configured in such a way that it could possibly
be mistaken for a firearm...."

Better make them in a different style. Some law enforce may shoot the meter
reader. WW

Yep. LAPD just killed a guy who pointed a cellfone. 90 shots fired, IIRC
15 hits. A meter reader wouldn't have a chance.

IN England the police will shoot you for carrying a piano leg on your
shoulder.

In England, isn't it illegal to photo [cellphone] an official in the
execution of his duties? "execution" now THERE's a good choice of word!

Don't know if it is illegal, but I have heard of people getting hassled for
doing it.

In the case of LAPD, a car chase was being broadcast on TV. These normally
end with the driver facedown on the pavement and a cop dogpile on top.

This chase ended with the perp fleeing the scene and turning towards the
cops pointing a cellfone as if it were a gun. TV footage seems to vindicate
LAPD.

A once very civilized country where 110 years ago being armed was perfectly
OK and when cops were chasing armed bank robbers in London, they had had no
problems borrowing guns from the citizens, many of whom actually joined in
the Hue and Cry to help the police.
Now the criminals are still well armed, but the citizens are disarmed with
the crime rate steadily rising as even their right to self-defense is being
taken away from them from the nanny-state.

Default Misidentified firearm causes panic response

There was a case, some many years ago, where police were trying to
find an armed suspect on the loose in a neighborhood. A plumber, with
pipe wrench, was emerging from under neath a tight crawl spaced house
and was shot dead, while half of his body was still under the house.
No warning, of any kind, from the police, at all. I can't imagine how
the plumber could possibly look threatening in his obvious crawl
position and he had no clue of the ongoing suspect search.

If you go and google "British Firearm Laws" you'll find a lot
of links telling about all the firearm restrictions which they have
over there. It's really a different world, when you consider in
Texas I can drive up to Gander Mountain and come home with
an AK-47 in under a half hour. In correspondence with Brits
over on alt.sixtyplus , they feel that in the event of an assault,
the police will save them.....

Indeed.
The sad part is that the never bothered to verify how valid their feelings
are
And all they need to do is look at police response times.
Not to mention that if they actually DO try to defend themselves when the
police don't show, they are apt to be prosecuted for it, as well as have the
government help pay for the criminal to sue them for damages.
A truly buggered up country.

Well, you can come home with a semi-automatic rifle that looks vaguely
like a real AK-47.

Hey, it can happen, I had an ATF agent tell me a 1939 Beretta bolt action
rifle was a machine gun. Must have had really fast hands.
