Simply coat with compound, imbed regular household toilet paper into the compound, recoat. Done! It's a real money saver. |

Toilet paper? Toilet paper is made to degrade when in contact with water. So, now you take your taping knife and try to work it and the paper comes apart. Like a couple bucks for a roll of the right product is too much to pay for a guy fixing some cracks? Another example of what you see on Holmes on TV. What's next, make your own paint? |

Try to pressure it into the crack. Do this without opening or painting over the cracks. Superglue should creep easily into the cracks, and will probably 'go off' within a few seconds. -- Ian |

wrote in message ... have several small cracks in the corners, have openened them up and planning to fill with all purpose joint compound and smooth... I don't know if this is the best way...will the cracks come back? Corner cracks are usually caused because the last guy did not fill the voids. Fill them fully, tape them properly and have no more crack. Just say no to crack. No. There can be a problem when joining porous materials, but even this can be largely overcome by applying moisture. If it is needed to fill cracks in the material itself, superglue usually works well. It will readily creep into the cracks. Apply repeatedly until the cracks are full. If it is rather reluctant to 'go off', simply moisten afterwards by applying a drop or two of water. -- Ian |

Everything from 2x4s for floor joists, to missing insulation everywhere, totally inadequate raised decks supports, etc. A recent one, a couple paid a contractor $90K to do wood floors on the upstairs of their modest house and to move the laundry room from upstairs to the basement. Besides the price being nuts, the washing machine wound up discharging out on the front lawn, because they plumbed it into the condensate drain for the furnace. |

But that won't be forthcoming, because as usual, you're just full of crap and wrong on the facts. And take a course in reading comprehension. I said using toilet paper is like all the half-assed things you SEE on Holmes. Not that Holmes does half-assed work. It's a show about all the half-assed things that have been done to houses. I guess if I said finding rotten food in the kitchen is like something you'd see on Kitchen Nightmares you'd claim that I said Gordon Ramsay cooks with rotten food. Hey, I missunderstood you and I apologized. Mabee it wasn't you, but I thought it was you that was harping about Holmes installing breaker panels sideways and somre other stuff that you (or whoever it was that I thought was you) kept spouting off about being crazy Canadian ways of doing things. What is the name of this Holmes tv show and on what channel? Or is it on Directv or such? Holmes on Homes is one, Holmes Inspection I believe is another. Something like that anyway. It is carried on several networks. Not sure who carries it in the US market. |

What's next, make your own paint? Have you seen the TP shortcut on Holmes? I fact, have you ever watched the program? An unwarranted criticism like that makes your credibility very low. Joe I don't need to see a jackass use toilet paper instead of drywall tape to know it's dumb. *Do you have to see someone put olive oil in their car instead of motor oil to know it's a bad idea? *It is typical of the kind of half-assed nonsense that one sees on Holmes. I don't think trader is saying that Holmes would suggest using TP instead of tape, but rather it's the sort of half-assed garbage that some other fool would have done that Holmes would have to rip out and redo correctly. Josh Possibly, but that's not what he SAID - And not in line with some other stuff he's said *about Holmes in the past. *If he WAS saying what you are suggesting, I appologize. *Otherwize I stick by what I said.- Hide quoted text - - Show quoted text - Now there you go yet again. * You follow up one dopey thing with another. *Please show us all the other "stuff" that you now claim I said about Holmes. * Just show us one negative thing I said. Should be easy to do if it's true. *But that won't be forthcoming, because as usual, you're just full of crap and wrong on the facts.
