Default OT - Google spam by phone, now

Just got an auto recorded phone call (it's 8:30 PM
here) from Google, wanting to sell me advertising.
The voice tells me the phone number is
(866) 976-5477.

Tomorrow, I'm going to call them, probably twenty
or so times, and ask to be put on thier do not call
list. I suggest (and request) everyone who reads
this, call them at least ten times.

See how they like it.

This is probably who called you:

Did the message sound like this:

Hi, this is Heather, a data service provider for Google. I wanted to
give you a call because we have a couple of positions open up in the
front page of Google, Yahoo, and Bing, specifically in your marketplace
and I wanted to talk to you about improving your position on these
search engines.

Again, this is for Google, Yahoo, and Bing for your business.

Give me a call when you get a chance; my number is 800-219-5458. That’s
800-219-5458. I would be happy to answer any questions you might have.

This is a really good opportunity if you’re looking to improve your
ranking and get more business.

Hi, This is Aaron, data service provider for Google. Wanted to give you
a call because we have a pretty awesome opportunity for you there in
your marketplace. We have some openings on the front page of Google,
Yahoo, and Bing; so I wanted to touch base with you to see if there was
any interest as far as getting your website and your buisiness on the
first page of these search engines.

You can reach me toll free – the number is 866-976-5477, we’d be happy
to answer any questions you have.

Call me as soon as you can if you are interested, because we do only
have a few spots open. Again this is for the first page of Google,
Yahoo, and Bing there in your margin.

You should notify the FCC, they have been giving huge fines to anyone
who is calling people who are on the do-not-call list.

DNC list is worthless. I've been on it since it started, and I find 3-4
calls a week on my machine, which points out that I am on DNC list. Most
are from robot dialers that start talking when machine answers phone, so
I lose first part of message. On the few occasions when I am home to
answer the call, they lie and say I have a 'business relationship' with
them, or they 'are taking a survey', Mostly when I ask for company name
and address, they hang up.

IMHO, robot dialers should be outlawed, with the possible exception of
public safety announcements (ie, a hurricane is coming, get out or it is
too late to get out, hunker down.) Marketing cold calls should be
outlawed as well, like they tried to do with spam faxes years ago,
another non-enforced law.

Ah, but spam faxes (and robo-calls) are a money-maker. For you!

The federal law specifically authorizes standing in a local court. Here's
the actual 1991 law:
http://www.keytlaw.com/faxes/47usc227.htm

You can twiddle on down to your neighborhood small-claims court and get a
judgement of $500 ($1500 if the fax was deliberate) (plus costs). You then
take the judgement to your constable or sheriff and he'll "levy and execute"
against the miscreant.

You may end up with a free oriental rug, six hair-dryers, or somesuch.

Don't worry, these things are sold at auction to satisfy the judgment.

For more information, just do an internet search for "junk fax".

Tell me how I can get a judgement from a fax-spammer located in Florida
when I'm here in Canada.

The most persistent fax-spammer is this one in Florida selling steel
buildings. We get their junk faxes once every 3 or 4 months.

I've googled about them and I think they've actually had a run-in with
the DoJ or the commerce department based on the documents I've found,
but that hasn't stopped them.

I've called several of their numbers and have asked to speak with "Tom",
and I always go through the same song and dance where I tell them I
don't want to get their faxes any more, they go through what seems to be
a process where they take my number off their list, but 3 months later I
get the same fax again.

Anyone else get these?

With a lawyer.

buildings. *We get their junk faxes once every 3 or 4 months.

Block 'em. Many if not most phone providers (in the US, at least)
offer individual number (and anonymous) call blocking.

On days when I'm bored, I like to take the time to talk to them, and just
plain waste their time. Make them repeat the answers. Ask the same
question multiple times. Ask them if they have a dog. Tell them about the
dog Skippy I had when I was young. Ask them what brand and color of
underwear they are wearing. It usually only takes one or two calls before
they will take you off their list, realizing that you are hitting them in a
vital spot, that being taking their time.

I love the following classic, and laugh every time I hear it. I see there
are others by this prankster, and I am going to listen to them, too.

Get their fax number and then fax them 100 pages of blacked out paper.
That should help with the ink cost. Repeat frequently as desired.

Maybe use a war dialer to find the fax number.
