We are looking at replastering a community swimming pool in Maryland and
are researching the pros and cons of fiberglass vs. the conventional approach. Does anyone have first hand experience with fibreglass for this purpose and what have the results been? Thanks |

Thanks I helped someone with a boat once. It takes skill, organisation, planning and experience to lay up large areas of GRP. You need several people who have done this before. You need separate teams to mix the stuff /lay up/keep the materials coming and to clean the tools. The problem is consistancy and getting a good finish. The vertical bits are the hardest to do. It's the most messy job in the world. The ambient temperature/humidity is critical as is the exact mix. |

Do you plan to do this yourselves, or are you going to hire a company with experience? Are you asking about the process or the long-term durability, etc? |

Thanks The only one I am familiar with redid the plaster work then shot a layer of fiberglass over it. This used a "gun" that chopped fiberglass string and mixed the resin at the nozzle. This was on a municipal pool. Jimmie |

Trying one more time ... we are interested in hearing from anyone with
first hand experience concerning the use of fiberglass in lieu of replastering a swimming pool. |

Get a professional assesment of your situation unless you are willing to provide a lot more information. No one can read your mind. Jimmie |

Other than google groupers by default, I think my killfile consists of 2 alleged people. Pretty hard to have a group discussion when you block half the group. |

In some Usenet groups it's _only_ possible to have a group discussion when you kill-file half the posters. I'm amazed if I check some groups on Google Groups versus using my newsreader with elaborate filters and anti-spam. This is a pretty good group actually. I have no filters for it. For a group like ba.broadcast, without filters the group would be unreadable. |

I understand it costs more, lasts longer, is guaranteed longer. reduces the need for chemicals and is smoother which some people think is a disadvantage. But I wonder if there are delamination and blistering issues which can be common when there is improper application or poor temperature control on hulls. |
