It may be its just not made now and not very old, I just got a new
Ridgid 12v thats fine

Not really true. DeWalt does make the NiCads for their tools. I
just bought 2 of the 18 volt ones with 2010 date codes for use with
both a circular saw and recip saw. What I don't know is do they
still make tools with NiCads instead of LiIon batteries. BTW, I was
really bummed out when I saw the Lowe's ad because I paid about $80
for 2 batteries and I could have gotten a good drill for only $20
more.

I'll try to hold out until I can upgrade to LiIon. I don't use the
drill often enough and my NiCads don't like that.

The thing is, when did they stop making tools that use NiCads? There is
a good chance the batteries were packaged with the drills and are a few
years old and never properly charged. Just the fact that Dewalt doesn't
show any reference to that drill on their web site sounds a little odd
to me.

I really doubt that Dewalt makes their own NiCd cells,I suspect they buy
them from an OEM bettery manufacturer just like everybody else.

not even package the batteries or make the plastic around them (or even the

Ok, now I'm double bummed out. This morning a friend called and
told me of a similar deal from Ace. It was $99 with a $10 rebate.

Well after all my bitching about this DeWalt drill at Lowes for $99
(Item #185475 Model DC970K-2) I went and bought one anyway and figured
if I don't like it I'll return it. Got it home and everything has 2010
date codes on it. Charged the first battery and tested it in high range
trying to hold it from turning. Damn thing gave me a little friction
burn instantly, it's got some torque after all. It's a bit heavier than
the normally stocked models. The best part is the charger maintains a
float charge on the battery, my 15+ year old Milwaukee didn't do that.
A battery could actually go dead while left on the charger for a month
or so. I haven't drilled a single hole but so far it seems like a good
deal. Amazon and other places have them listed at around $125 - $135,
so it's not really a $200 tool like Lowes advertises it as.

Next was a little aluminum 6' Werner step ladder for $19. **** they
also have 4' fiberglass ones for the same price. I couldn't decide, so
I bought one of each. I was thinking about the little work platform to
stand on for the same price, but since someone bought the last one as I
approached it, I didn't have to make a decision on that.

So finally I have a drill with new batteries, it's been way overdue. I
got tired of dragging out the Bosch 39 volt LiIon monster hammer drill
for little stuff. I have a larger plug in hammer drill so I may sell
the cordless 36 volt one on eBay.
