Default Cold Patch For Asphalt Driveway

Hi,

Have some decent size holes in my old asphalt driveway.
Perhaps 8" or so deep X a foot or so long.
True holes; not really cracks.

Have never repaired anything like this myself.
Guess what I need is what's called a "cold patch" compound

Is this "E Z Street" cold patch "stuff" what I want ?

Is there a better product available ?
If so, what makes it better ?

What else should I probably be asking regarding patching asphaltg holes,
but am not smart enough to know to ?

Much thanks, appreciate the help,
Bob

First of all you need to understand what caused the holes to appear. How wide
are the holes? If you are describing large cracks, up to 2 inches wide, you can
probably get away with filling the crack with fine gravel and topping off with a
couple of inches of asphalt patch material.

If you don't use it on a high traffic drive, it's probably OK.

I'd get a couple of quotes from reputable local asphalt repair companies. They
will know by looking if you have an underlying problem that needs repair. They
also will be able to use a longer lasting hot mix. If the remaining drive is in
good condition, they can also hot seal the whole thing after repairs. That will
give a consistent appearance and extend the drive life.

You want to make sure the holes are dry for a while first...

Then pack the bottom of the hole with gravel, making sure
you pack it down really well...

You only want to apply the same amount of the cold patch
to match the thickness of the rest of the driveway...

You're on the right track. When you patch them, patch them in "lifts".
Basically you fill it part way, tamp it down, repeat. If the hole is truly
8" deep, you'll have about 3 lifts.
