I forgot my password to unlock vista, I use a fingerprint reader all
the time. I want to load a program that wont load and was instructed to close startup programs but I wonder if that closes my fingerprint reader and I am worried I wont be able to log on. Will this happen, is there an easy way to reset the main password. When my external fingerprint reader fails I am also in trouble. |

I was given an old laptop, and used a free one of these which did find the password for that laptop. |

I don't have any of that stuff, and I've never been compromised..... If you are nicer to people, they won't try to hurt you.... :)))) Andy in Eureka, Texas |

The administrator account is disabled by default in Vista and does not have a password. Assuming you haven't changed that - if you turn the computer off, you can press F8 repeatedly when booting to go into Safe Mode. Log in with administrator (enabled only in Safe Mode) and go to Control Panel, User Accounts, and change the password for the account you normally use. |

Why exactly do you need a fingerprint reader to access your computer? Is this a home computer or work? If this is at home, who exactly is it that you dont trust that well. I dunno........if I had to do all that at home just to get on my computer, Id just throw the damn thing in the garbage and give up on them all together. Bubba One of my clients dropped off a computer with a fingerprint setup, (probably screwing with me) I called him the next day to say it was ready, & he said how did you get in. I said I unplugged it and logged in, when it was gone the computer adjusted and allowed normal log in. while I was in there I plugged it in and gave my self a log in with the fingerprint scan with administration privileges Had that failed i would have used windows key; http://recoveranypassword.com/recover/password-windows/ |

All of these replies and not one thing that is slightly related to
home repair. Wouldn't there have been a better group for this discussion? G.S. The goblin does not have to be in your house. He does not need to be on your property. He doesn't even have to be in the same block! If you feel your life is in danger, you have the right to use deadly force to protect it. Or, if in Texas, you can fall back on the "Yer honor, he needed killin'! " defense. |

I thought about one of those self-start thingies for the car -- the kind where you put the fob on the keychain. I couldn't figure out why I'd want one. Why would I want to walk to my car to get the key fob to push to start the car when I'm standing right next to the car anyway because I had to walk out there to get the fob. It makes no sense. As for the house, gee I hope no one locks the door. I have no idea where the key is -- even if I have a key. Besides, what good is a locked door when someone could just crawl in a window? |

Go figure. Joe Here I have one better. I have an old retired widowed lady next door and the same right across the street. Hell, they see EVERYTHING. Ive got a Big black Lab too that stays in the house but she would just lick you to death. Looks like she would eat you alive though. Pretty much never lock doors. Recently there has been some idiot robbing homes during the day even when people are home in ours and a few close cities. Locking the doors till they catch those morons. Always lock my van no matter where I am. Too much chit in it. Even had to remove the lock buttons and linkage and put cages in the van windows. Bonehead broke my back van window while I was at lunch one day at a pizza joint. That wont ever happen again. Bought a Glock. Shoot em and drag em inside the van or the house if need be. No more carjackings. Just crispy crooks. I need one for the home, maybe Billy Mays will offer one cheap! " The Intruder Fryer" |

My new-to-me minivan that I bought last summer (an 05 to replace the 95 that I didn't want to replace the transmission a 3rd time on), has 2, count 'em, 2, outside keyholes. Drivers door and tailgate. The 01 version of the same van had a keyhole on all 5 doors, like God and Walter Chrysler intended. (As did my 95, although it had one less door.) Key that came with the 05 has buttons on it- not a seperate fob (that I could probably deal with), but a key head the size of a serving spoon, and a tiny little loop to run the keyring through, such that if you use the fob key and other keys together, they will not fit in a pants pocket. Total fubar engineering. And because these are the 'secure' chip keys, it cost me $120 to get 2 halfway-normal size keys without the buttons. Still too fat with the padded heads, but tolerable. Fob key went in the safe as a backup. But now, every time I park, I have to force an unlock of the electric locks, so I can use the other 3 front doors. Or if I forget and approach car from curb side, I have to tell passengers to wait while I go around and unlock, since there is no damn keyhole on that door. Never understood the appeal of fobs- you are standing at the door anyway. Why not just use the key? If you can free up a hand to dig out the keyring, you can manage to turn a key in a lock. -- aem the luddite sends.... |

I have long since resolved never, ever, to buy a vehicle
with that few locks. I'm old fashioned. I got a couple keyfobs with my Blazer, that don't work even with new batteries. I havn't spent the money on key fobs. Dont want em. -- Christopher A.
