Default laundry room

The apartment laundry room, (has one washer and one dryer) door is always
kept locked for security reasons. There is a sort of smell in it now. Would
putting a grid vent in the door help with getting some air circulation in
the room?

Um, yes. I have seen wooden doors have holes neatly drilled in the
bottom third of a door to provide for air movement.

First of all, check for any leaks and repair those. Any vent will
help. Consider installing a fan venting to the outside.
