Yes, I know, Harbor Freight, but it's the best price I can find on a
grinder right now.

I bought a 6" grinder at HF two years ago. Can't say if it is the same as
the picture or not; but then the one you buy may not be the same as the one
in the picture either.
It was a grinder; that's about it. I sold it for $15 a couple months ago
and bought a 8" Delta variable speed.

It worked, but that's about it. If your demands are not high, it should be
fine; just don't expect it to be smooth or last for years in heavy use.

Sorry about your loss. I expect it hurts more than the $1,000 loss.
