Default Another tile question - thinset color and marble

I'm using 12"x12" marble tiles for walls and floors. A small part of the
tile is translucent so does it make any difference if white or gray thinset
is used? In other words, would the mortar color go through once the thinset
is cured?

I was told that you are never to use water based mortar for marble,
only epoxy. You should confirm this before proceeding.

But, to answer your question - You would be better off with white
than gray if the tile is transparent, but it shouldn't matter much if
it is only translucent.

It can definitely show up in lighter color marble. Play it safe, go
with the white.

Another poster mentioned the concern about marble and water-based
adhesives. As far as I know the only marbles that curl with water are
black and green (not all of them, just from certain parts of the
world). You should always ask if there are any special considerations
with a particular stone, whether during installation or maintenance,
when you purchase the stone. The big box store may or may not know,
the tile store will.

Yes. Use mortar and grout compatible with marble. Marble is porous and
stains from the wrong mortar.
