Default PING: avid_hiker was plumbing problem.

Avid_hiker,

A few days ago you will recall that you gave me some advice and a
Power Point file relating to a CPVC to Copper plumbing problem I was
having.

I followed the file and your advice and it appears to have worked
wonderfully. I'd like to let a few more days go by because my last
repair lasted a couple of days before going south but....so far so
good. While I was at it I tossed in a filter for the fridge water and
secured everything up th the ceiling better. I feel good about it all
now.

I used the factory mated CPVC to copper from HD. They are a little
different than the ones depicted in the file but the idea is the
same. These have the CPVC mated to a garden hose like fitting with
rubber O ring.

I learned a couple of things in all this.
1) Use the proper parts for a proper repair.

2) When you have the hot water shut off and have cut the hot water
pipe for the ensuing repair AND have opened the faucets to allow the
pipes to drain...DO NOT, I repeat DO NOT go upstairs and wash your
hands with the cold water.
The cold water will go to the faucet as it should but half of it or so
will hit the open hot water faucet, do a U turn, shoot down the hot
water pipe until it gets to where you cut it and pour out all over the
floor. You won't be aware that this is happening until you go back
downstairs and step into an inch of water covering the floor.
My wife is still mad at me for all the towels I used but the tile
floor is sparkly clean.

Anyway, I really appreciate your help in this.

Regards,

W-
