freezer in the basement near oil burner
i'm redoing my basement and found the best place for an upright freezer to
be next to my oil burner (the front of the burner is about 1 foot from the side of the freezer). there is enuf room for the oil guy to service the unit, but i'm think that perhaps the heat the burner gives off will cause the freezer to work too hard. (We probably open the freezer door 4x/week). in the summer, the room is cooled (by ac flowing thru the rest of the basement) and in the winter, altho that room is not heated, the burner and hot water heater throw off heat and the rest of the basement is heated. in my kitchen, the refrigerator is directly next to the wall oven (altho the oven is encased in an enclosure). one thing i could do is buy a panel of rigid foam board insulation and secure it to the exposed side of the freezer to guard against a potential problem. 2 questions: 1. am i over thinking this? can freezers operate relatively efficiently in a potentially warm spot? 2. any safety issues with the freezer being a foot from the burner (pilot light)? thanks |

Be realistic here. Can you squat down in front of the heater and remove parts comfortably? I doubt it. 2 questions: 1. am i over thinking this? No, you are underthinking it. You probably need 3 feet. Remember, you are paying hte service guy by the hour. The harder you make it for him, the more it is going to cost you. can freezers operate relatively efficiently in a potentially warm spot? Reasonably warm yes, over 100, no. 2. any safety issues with the freezer being a foot from the burner (pilot light)? You said you had two questions. This one makes three. You are done with your requested allotment for the day. If you used the same method of calculating distance as you did in counting questions, move the freezer at least three (in your case six) times the distance and all will be well. |

"hoops" wrote in message no, but u can get to it from the side. You've never service a burner have you? I can assure you the service guy will be cursing you. If th e freezer is on wheels and can be eaily moved, it may be OK. i'm not chaged by the hour. it included in the price of the oil (meaning, i buy the oil and maintenance is free). Very expensive way to get service. |

Put the freezer on rollers, they have them at Lowes, I have had a oil furnace for years, you need access! Your repair man will void youfree service..read the fine print! the wheels or a dolly is no problem. the real question is the proximity of
the freezer to the burner. "Andy & Carol" wrote in message ... Put the freezer on rollers, they have them at Lowes, I have had a oil furnace for years, you need access!
