Biting bugs in pool - Ant/Fly/Termite?
We have these little bugs that happen to get in the pool here and there.
(15'x30' pool has maybe 15-30) in it at a time. At first glance they look like a small fly. Dark, clear kind of wings. Then you look at it closer and it looks kind of like an ant, Its got 2-3 separate body parts. They seem to be able to survive on the water surface for quite some time. If you get one on you they will bite, hurts pretty good. Makes the kids Cry. I've also seen them flying around a house we are building (40' away from the pool). We have the Back Porch enclosed in plastic on a few side and they try to fly out the plastic side and get stuck trying to get through. Any Suggestions? I was going to see if I can post a picture of it when I get home. Thanks, Scott- |

They grow wings, fly to a new location, and shed their wings. I had a swarm of thousands on my patio last night. They look as you describe and can survive on the water surface. Fish eat them and die from the toxin. If you're not in the south, I don't know without a picture. Bob |
