Hello,
I am now the proud owner of a house that hasn't had the best care for the past few years. I am pretty close to being finished with painting and repairs, however, there is one thing I need to do that is going to be a nightmare. My hallway has wallpaper in it that some lazy idiot painted over. The house had two wallpaper borders, which I was able to remove, however one took over five hours and the other took around 4 hours. The wallpaper in the hallway probably covers at least 10-20 times the surface area than the two borders had together. I removed the borders by using a tool with little teeth that ripped up the wallpaper and then sprayed a chemical called DIF onto it. Now, what would be the best way to go about removing the painted on wallpaper? I tried the teeth tool on a small part of this, but it looks like that paint is preventing it from doing what it needs to do. Can anyone offer me any suggestions? Also how much do you think it would cost for a professional to come in and remove it? |

The teeth tool doesn't work for me either. I used a heat gun to soften
the paint then a 4" scraper with sharp edge to remove the wallpaper underneath (top layer of the paper). It comes right off. Then using hot water and a sponge, wet the underlying brown part of the wallpaper. Use same scraper to get it off. Then I clean the residue with a cleaner called Awesome that I get at the dollar store. Then it's ready to spackle. |
