Default Question about NTE935

Hello,

I am a ham radio operator and have a little bit of electronics knowledge,
and I am currently pursuing my Electrical Engineering degree. I have worked
for several years as a maintenance mechanic in a manufacturing. I am
working on a CNC machine that uses a NTE935 IC to generate the 5 volts that
supplies the servo control cards.
The IC is new. Another mechanic was working on the machine long before I
got to it, and he replaced whatever was originally in the machine with the
NTE935. The original regulator had a TO3 case, and according to the manual,
and the needs of the servo boards, it should be delivering the 5 volts to
the system.
I'm not sure the guy has installed / wired the chip properly or if it is
even the correct chip.

The problem is, the chip is not delivering the 5 volts to the system.

I was wondering if anyone could tell me what sort of input is expected on
the adjust pin to control the voltage that is output by the chip?

I have approximately 11 VDC on the Vin pin, and nothing on the Vout / Case,
and I somehow managed not to note what I had on the Adjust pin, which
controls the output of course.

What I'm hoping is that I can figure out what voltage or current I should
have going to the Adjust pin in order to command the chip to output the
required 5 volts.

If anyone could give me a hand I'd greatly appreciate it.

John

LM7805 and LM317 had TO3 versions ( with a K suffix)

answers to all that will be in the NTE935 data sheet.

Is the NTE935 known to be good?
