Why is it that in cartoons a character can use a TV remote ona TV set that has a rotary tuner?

What like a remote-controlled motor that turns the tuner? I hear that the
RCA Two Thousand used this for the UHF. Could the senser be concealed in the center of the dial perhaps? "John Fields" wrote in message ...
