My dog unfortunately decided to chew on the AC cord of my SONY tv,

Yes, it's quite easy, should be inexpensive. Another option which you could
do yourself is cut the chewed part off so you just have good wire, and
install a replacement plug on it. If it's too short plug it into an
extension cord. Not "good as new" but under 5 bucks, safe and functional.

Most recent Sony sets have an ac cord that plugs into the power supply board
inside the set. Unplug the set, take a look and if it does, ask the local
shops if they have any Sony scrappers that they can pull a cord from and
pick it up cheap.

Any TV service man should be able to order you a new original cord, and
replace it. This is not a very expensive repair.

If you know someone that can do a safe splice, it is possible to splice it.
If there is enough slack on it, you can put on a new AC plug, and use it.

As for safety, your dog is not going to live very long, if it continues to
chew on AC cords. When I was doing TV service, I heard about pets getting
killed or badly injured for life, when doing that type of practice. Having
the mains voltage in the mouth can do some very bad injury!

One must be careful on what is called an "very expensive repair"
Many of the larger TV shops have minimum rates on color TV's.
The shop my dad used to work for that figure was around $110!
$110 + the cost of the cord is NOT cheap. SO even though the cord itself
is $5 to $20 dollars, the labor could be a killer. You would be better
off at a smaller shop (if you can find one left). Ask before you leave
it to fix what ALL the charges are. This includes Estimate, diagnosis,
bench labor, pick up, disposal fee and anything else they can think of.

To the TV shop, it just a dead TV which could have a myriad of other
problems. I don't know how many times the customer had told me
one thing, when it turned out to be so much more. You don't know until
you put it on the bench and check it out. And there are charges to do
that at most shops.
