I have a Sylvania Superset model # RPK708 CH03, chasis # 27P1-02. I'm
starting lose focus and see 3 seperate colors (blue, red, and yellow). Is there a minor adjustment I can make or a part I can replace to fix this. I'm not exactly sure where to start. Recommendations would be appreciated. Thanks! |

If so then there's probably a fault on the convergence board. |

This is not a projection tv. The part # that was recommended (RPK708) is
not a legitimate part #. Is there any description you can give for the part that needs to be replaced? Thanks! Dan |

Dan The idea is that that is the part # for the set itself...I am not familiar with the model, but apparently at least one person here deems it to be not worthwhile repairing in at least some circumstances. Sounds as if either the tube is getting soft or somehow the convergence
rings have been misaligned. BTW what is the manufactureing date on the set? Sounds like the CRT is getting soft and the yoke is sagging. Likely will be hard to justify cost of repair. |

This is probably terminal as a few people have mentioned.
However, on the Line Output Transformer (the one with the big EHT cable which goes to the top of the tube), there are usually two controls. One labelled Focus, the other SCREEN. Leave SCREEN alone, but you may like to try adjusting Focus, while displaying a test card. Sometimes poor focus can also upset the convergence, hence the three colours you are seeing, but adjust for sharpest focus. On large screen sets, there may even be two focus controls, one for the centre of the picture and one for the edges. It's unlikely to have enough to rectify your problem, but it's just about the only thing you can try without more knowledge of TV repairs. Use a well insulated screwdriver and keep your hands out of the set while making the adjustment. Colin kovicky wrote: I have a Sylvania Superset model # RPK708 CH03, chasis # 27P1-02. Just googled this...it's a NAP Sylvania, meaning it's fairly old, I think. I can't understand that the convergence rings may have moved by themselves, because it's difficult enough to get them separated when you want to, but... ? Tom |

Tom Hmmm...based on my memory being jogged by another post here, maybe some bell convergence magnets have fallen off, due to their respective attachments getting old? Tom |

The yokes fail on these sets which cause this problem. We could never figure out what changed.The yoke still rings ok and there were no external cosmetic changes. Chuck |

As a former Philips factory tech, I saw many of these sets with yoke problems;
most likely one of the trimmer magnets in the yoke assy has come loose; this is usually accompanied by a rather loud buzzing sound, although not always; not really worth trying to fix; that set may have been the worst problem generator Philips ever built... |
