Any comments? Samsung TV
Samsung TV Model TXK2554 - Chassis KS2A
Problem with the set is that it had a dark picture (low Screen Voltage). After trying to adjust the screen voltage on the flyback I lost the screen voltage altogether. Disconnecting the wire from the CRT board and measuring the voltage direct from the flyback gives 0 volts. So I figure that the flyback is bad... but another technician told me he had a similar problem once and just barely adjusting the screen voltage on the flyback caused the picture tube to go to a blue screen. CRT was shorted. The set I'm into, when pressing the power button, turns on for about 10 seconds and then turns off, but is not in shutdown. I can turn it right back on without disconnecting it. I measured the power supply, checks OK. High voltage comes up, looks normal. Does anybody have experience with this set? Is the CRT causing the flyback to self-destruct? Is it worthwhile replacing the flyback? |

Check the associated circuit with the screen supply, normally it comes
directly from the LOPT, ocassionally it also goes through a resistor on the crt board. From the diagnosis you preformed it does seem that maybe the screen supply form the LOPT has failed, an internal part of the LOPT itself, which will require replacment. Post part number off the original transformer and someone should be able to give you a cost, or call Tritronics and ask for a price quote. Very probabe not the CRT but check price of the transformer and service charges. "Arnold stewart" wrote in message ... The flyback (LOPT) is not very expensive. I can get it for $30.00 Cdn
(plus shipping & taxes), but I was wondering if the problem was common and that I would just be losing time & money on this set. On this NG there's a lot of people with a lot of experience. IMHO if the tele is more than 5 years old it may be less expensive to
actually trash it and purchase new. "Arnold stewart" wrote in message news The flyback (LOPT) is not very expensive. There's some time involved but for a hobbyist the repair can be enjoyable and it's one less TV in the landfill. The whole purpose of this group is to *repair* things afterall. |

Thanks for the Flame Jimmy, That is the obvious choice that the gent in
Canada will ultimately choose, (that is why the choice of "may", not will absolutely!!) . If you read the intent of the post you will notice the mention of age (regarding the manufacturer of the set). Obviously I do agree the cheap transformer, properly installed, if that is the only problem, may suffice to repair the tele. BTW: IMHO the original affect of this N/G is to assist others in their quest of information regarding repairing electronic devices, True? To also allow them the freedom of choice once the information is presented to them, with all the possible ramifications considered.
