Default Philips 32" tube-question

This 32PW9616 has a faulty tube. The colors in the outskirts of the
tube are no good. If i decrease contrast to a minimum the picture is
completely stable and the defective colors are bearable.

I wonder if the changes in picture size (and deformation) when bright
objects appear on the screen is caused by the tube, or if there is a
faulty component (capacitor?) i can change? Are there any measurements
I can do to find out?
When I adjust the V-Shift setting it looks as if I also adjust E/W
Trapezium at the same time. It is a MG3.1E chassis.

I cannot tell you specifics for your TV model.

Distortion of the picture size, and pin cushioning, can be caused by
fault conditions in the high voltage, and power supply regulation.

If you were to monitor the power supply outputs with a DVM, and turn the
brightness and contrast controls up and down, you should be able to
observe if the power supply is stable or not. The same would be for the
high voltage at the anode of the CRT. For the high voltage tests, you
will require a high voltage probe.

These type of fault conditions can be fairly complex to troubleshoot and
repair. If you are not trained in TV service, and are not properly setup
for doing these types of repairs, I would strongly suggest you give the
set out for proper service.

There are also some very serious safety issues when working in these TV
sets.

Suggest have a technician have ago at the set, sounds as if the CRT may have
sustained some type of damage or problems within the akb, or video
processing circuitry. Forst, I agree with Jerry regarding the changes in
the raster with regards to the beam current through the CRT. That is, when
you decrease the contrast and brightness levels you are changing the amount
of current being drawn by the CRT. If in doing so seriously affects the
raster size or registration, kanske there may be power supply regulation or
HV related problems.
