replacing bulb in a Panasonic Microwave Oven Model NN-T990SA
I have a Panasonic Microwave Oven, Model NN-T990SA. The appliance
bulb that illuminates its interior has burned out, and I would like to replace it. I see two possible access routes. Can you steer me to the right one? First, there's a fiberboard square on the right, inside wall that appears to pivot on a nylon pin; it looks like I could free two corners of the fiberboard by gentle prying and flexing. Is that how it works? Or, should the nylon pin be pried out? Does the opening behind the fiberboard give a sufficiently large pathway to reach the bulb? Second, on the underside of the unit, beneath the front control panel, there is a single screw. I assume that removing it would enable me to pull the control panel forward. Would the bulb and its socket be attached to the backside of the control panel? If replacing the bulb would require special tools, I wouldn't attempt it. Appreciative of any suggestions! |

In every microwave I've seen you access the bulb by removing the whole top cover of the unit, there's usually some screws around the perimeter of the back panel or the sides. I suggest reading the repair faq before doing this though, common sense will keep you safe, but it's not too hard to get yourself killed if you poke around the wrong areas without taking precautions. |

Agreed: The original operations manual will tell you what needs to be done
to replace that bulb. However, if in doubt, it may be better to have it professionally done. These items can and have been "widow makers". put finger to keyboard and composed: In every microwave I've seen you access the bulb by removing the whole top cover of the unit, there's usually some screws around the perimeter of the back panel or the sides. The lamp in my microwave oven is user serviceable. It is accessible via a cutout in the top cover. - Franc Zabkar -- Please remove one 's' from my address when replying by email. |

On this particular model, the bulb MUSTt be removed by taking off the top cover as the bulb and holder is one assembly. It is held into lamp housing by two nylon clips. (don't flex these back too far when removing as they will break off)
The bulb/holder is a Panasonic part and should be available through http://www.partstore.com/ And as with all electronic devices UNPLUG it first. |
