Anyone have any clue where to get some schematics for "off the wall" TV
brands? My niece bought a TV brand new a while back. She had it little over
a year.. Yep, just past warranty, IT DIED. I am told the company went out of
business already, which produced it for "K-mart". It is having a Power
Problem. You can plug it in, turn it on and it will come on and play well.
Turn it off, then try to turn it on again, no dice. It won't come on. Unplug
it for a while, not sure how long - I've done a day, and it will fire back
up. Any ideas?

You will need to open er up and do some old fashioned troubleshooting and
testing...... or take it to a service shop.
The intermittent symptoms that you described can be caused by a lot of
different faults including faulty components that may be heat sensitive or
even by comparatively simple faults like dry, cracked, cold, or otherwise
faulty solder connections especially near and around the high heat producing
components such as power resistors, diodes, power transistors, regulators
and other chips mounted on heat sinks and around the flyback and HOT.
For this type of intermittent problem the service manual and schematics are
just about useless.... in fact, the service manual and schematics are not
very useful to the technically inexperienced..... there are NO step by step
troubleshooting and repair instructions, usually a qualified, knowledgeable
and experienced tech who can usually fix the majority of failures WITHOUT
the documentation will find it helpful with in depth troubleshooting and
tougher repairs.
A good place to learn more about television failures and repairs is at

There, with some searching and reading, you will find a wealth of television
troubleshooting tips, component testing methods, repair procedures, and
IMPORTANT safety information that will help you to stay away from the very
dangerous and LETHAL electrical shock hazards inside. Be very careful,
these hazards can still be present even when the television is turned off
and unplugged from the AC power.
If, after reading through the repairfaq website, you are still not certain
how to proceed you might be best advised to TAKE your television to a
service shop for at the very least a repair cost estimate so you can make an
intelligent repair decision with facts instead of telephone or internet
guesses.

The response you got before this one was excellent!

One of the places where I have success for old model sets, to have the
schematics is from Sam's Publications. They are excellent. There are also a
number of electronics parts distributors that are agents for them as well.

Sounds like a thermal, and a can of freeze spray might do the
diagnostic. When you cold down the bad part, it'll start back up.

Without other data, this may take several steps, first chilling groups
of components. Then when you get lucky, chilling subsets, until you've
got it narrowed down.

So, What specifically is your post regarding, other than a probable rant??
Required information for relevant response would be at least the make of
the product [manufacturer] and the model [numbers, etc from rear panel of
unit] of the product. Additional would be the chassis number and any
pertinent diagnostic and troubleshooting details that you, or a
professional, has actually accomplished. Otherwise much of the information
is considered [generic] and probable responses will be similar.
Many of the offshore, inexpensive items, have neither manufacturer support
nor sources for specific components. Or they are so inexpensive that the
manufacturer requires these items to be returned to the vendor, i.e. if
