sony multiscan cpd e100 (trinitron)
Hi,
the monitor suddenly died (it just didn't turn on one day). No picture, the LED is off, with a strange periodical "buzz" sound. Nothing inside looks fried to me. Anyone familiar with this problem? |

You did not list any power supply output voltages, or any characteristics of
scan drives, and etc. It is like taking your car somewhere, and telling the mechanic, the car has a rattle, and does not start! If you are not trained and equipped to do monitor service, I would suggest you give the monitor out to a service centre for a proper estimate. -- Jerry G. You did not list any power supply output voltages, or any characteristics
of scan drives, and etc. Sorry. I said "nothing looks fried to me" but I meant that all readings are normal (I have monitor's schematics). It sure isn't in my nature just to look inside a broken device and say that I have done all I can do to repair it. But ok, you don't know me. It is like taking your car somewhere, and telling the mechanic, the car has a rattle, and does not start! I'd say it's a broken bearing in the ignition system and must be replaced (I would tell you that if I was the mechanic) Speaking of my monitor I'd say it's probably power transformer T603, looks suspicious. And I think that the transformer is the source of strange "buzz" sound. If you are not trained and equipped to do monitor service, I would suggest you give the monitor out to a service centre for a proper estimate. I admit that I haven't got training nor proper equipment to do complicated monitor repairs (I did several simple repairs, tough) but I tought that maybe someone here has already encountered simple malfunction on this monitor and knows what to do. So this group is my last stop before going to a service centre and spending 50$ for the repairs. |

I admit that I haven't got training nor proper equipment to do complicated
monitor repairs (I did several simple repairs, tough) but I tought that maybe someone here has already encountered simple malfunction on this monitor and knows what to do. So this group is my last stop before going to a service centre and spending 50$ for the repairs. The noise might look like it's coming from a transformer, but it could also be a regulator that's oscillating or what not. Without knowing more information and, to a greater extent, without having the monitor physically present for anyone here to examine it, we cannot provide accurate suggestions. Anything can cause the problem and without being able to know what the monitor is doing all the way down to what voltages are present and their ratings versus what they are supposed to be in the service literature, all we can do is give generalized guesses that have a good chance of being wrong. Your options are, indeed, few. Replace the monitor or send it to a qualified service professional. - Reinhart |
