Default Sony CRT Magnetism SCC-L04MM-A IBM P202/6558-43N

Hi.. I hope I'll get some comments from someone that's encountered this
problem.

This CRT appears to have some strong magnetism in it, centered at the top.
Other than that, I suppose it could possibly be due to shock damage, because
I don't know the history of this used monitor.

I can't seem to change the resulting flux lines on the screen. I've tried a
small degauss coil which isn't effective at all. I tried a Weller soldering
gun, and it can't weaken it either.

I've seen how older Sony CRTs are manufactured with the steel tubular frame,
and if this problem is due to magnetism, I think that the frame's been
magnetised at the top.

CRT 50LMD15X

The monitor is a Sony OEM for IBM
Manuf date May '98
FCC AK8GDM500PS

Thanks
WB

If it will not demagnetize, the mask in the tube may be damaged. The monitor
may have been badly jarred, or even dropped.

If you are very good at setting up the purity and convergence in these, you
can try to move the yoke, and go through the complete set-up. But, I think
the fault is the mask in the tube.
