Default canon pc-20 problems

on the left side of the machine's interior, looking from the end where
paper comes out, are a series of white and black plastic gear wheels;
there is a 1 inch steel (?) bar that sticks out toward where the toner
cartridge sits when machine is closed. At the end of this bar is a
very short (1/2 in) spring that is hanging free; cannot see any place
where it should attach to. info, please?

also, there is a lot of extremely sticky ink residue around the final
paper feed wheels just before the green drying unit; this has left
residue on the red feed bar under the drying unit, and paper now comes
out vertically wrinkled.

any suggestions on either of the above will be greatly appreciated. zk
