Accessing Setup Menu On Old Panasonic PV-4212 VCR w/o Remote
Well, my trusty Sony SLV-373 VCR of over a decade finally gave out on
me. It was unable to play tapes for the last few years, but I used it as a tuner in my bedroom with my Commodore 1702 monitor. For those of you in the know, these C= monitors provide a pretty nice picture. Anyway, I picked up a Panasonic PV-4212 VCR at the Goodwill for a few bucks. The only problem is, there's no remote. I've tried 2 universal remotes (which work with direct channel entry and up/down), but I can't access the setup menu. I need to change the tuner to CATV. Right now I can't get any channels above 13 or so. What I need to know is if there is a way to get to the setup menu by pressing keys on the VCR in some sort of special sequence or something. Holding pause down allows me to change from line to tuner, but I need to get to the tuner setting sections. I'm sure I'll get the standard "just go buy a ______" reply, but I'd rather make what I already have work if that's possible. Anyway, thanks in advance. deebee... |

If you have the instruction manual for your VCR, it should have a section on how to use the front panel controls to access the setup menu. If you do not have the instructions, they should be available on Panasonic's web site, http://www.panasonic.com. The site may also have information on how to obtain a factory-replacement remote for your VCR. The remote that originally came with the machine (or an exact replacement) is always the best to use, as it is programmed specifically for that VCR and will operate all its functions. |
