I once replaced an awful Realistic / Shure phono cartridge with a decent
Stanton - then took the RS cart outside and jumped up and down on it!

.....as if you can honestly say that you haven't had a little bit of fun
with electronic devices not worth reparing.

Well now that you mention it maybe I was too harsh. Sorry
I have found unique uses for explosive fireworks and non repairable
electronics. Just didn't think anyone here would be interesed.

Here's a fun project I've done:
Take a still-working 27" TV with a worn out CRT and a chassis that's not
worth saving. Connect electric igniter (model rocket type) to power
source and wrap around fuse of explosive, placed between CRT and
chassis. Longer fuse = more suspense = better.
Get a SAFE Distance and activate the TV either with remote, or switched
power strip etc.

Too bad I never recorded the good old days on Video.
