vcr won't eject
My Phillips VCR won't eject. I have a tape loaded and now its stuck in
there. Otherwise, it functions fine, can play and record. When I press the eject button (either on the set or the remote) the unit tries to eject, but fails and goes into standby. Any ideas what can be wrong? The Phillips service centre here is in another town and opens only during office hours and I do not want to take a day off to send it for repairs and another day to collect it. The shop I bought it from way back in 1997 no longer exists. Hopefully, it's something I can deal with myself. I'm hoping to get a couple more years life from it before moving on to DVD recorders. In a quiet room, listen carefully as you hit the eject button. Likely,
you'll hear some mechanical activity even though there is no eject. Quite often a rubber belt is slipping and is unable to lift the tape. The system quickly sees a fault and shuts down the motor. Before considering electrical faults, look at the belts. Sometimes a cleaning will help, but a new belt is better. Most repair shops will sell you the belt if you have the original, saves having to look up part numbers etc. BTW, VCR's have light sensors to watch the mechanics and tape. Keep bright lights away from the unit while trying to eject with the cover off. |

vcr won't eject
The model number is Philips VR428. This is Asian model, not sure if the
number is same in other countries. Pretty basic 4 head mono VCR from around 1997. Rewind and forward works ok. I opened the cover. It looks pretty complicated, so I don't know where to start. Anyway, when I press the eject button, the tape goes back in to the casette, and the VCR tries to lift the casette but fails and returns the casette back to the loaded position with the tape wound on the drum and goes to standby. |

As someone else posted, it may just be that some rubber belts and such need replacing. If you aren't willing to do it yourself, this is a simple repair for a professional. If all you want to do is get the tape out, helping it along when it's trying to lift up may be enough to get it out without damaging anything. --- sam | Sci.Electronics.Repair FAQ: http://www.repairfaq.org/ Repair | Main Table of Contents: http://www.repairfaq.org/REPAIR/ +Lasers | Sam's Laser FAQ: http://www.repairfaq.org/sam/lasersam.htm | Mirror Sites: http://www.repairfaq.org/REPAIR/F_mirror.html Important: Anything sent to the email address in the message header above is ignored unless my full name is included in the subject line.
