Americans now eating horse meat - how much worse can it get?
I don't know what's worse.
Artificial calimari (made from pig bung) or hamburgers made from horse meat. But this is what it takes to give the average american something he barely can afford (a 99 cent happy meal). Such is life when you're going down the toilet... ================== Burger King To DNA Test Its Beef After Food Processor Used Horse Meat February 1, 2013 10:55 AM http://tampa.cbslocal.com/2013/02/01...ed-horse-meat/ MIAMI, Fla. (CBS Tampa) – Burger King will reportedly test its meat to make sure it is 100 percent beef after horse DNA was found in beef products from one of its food processors. Diego Beamonte, Burger King’s vice president of global quality, told Bloomberg Businessweek that “details for DNA testing have not been worked out, and no timeline has been set for implementing the new procedures.” Burger King addressed this topic after it was disclosed that Silvercrest Foods sold beef products containing horse meat to other retailers. According to the company’s statement to PR Newsire, Burger King says it will test specifically for equine DNA. Burger King told Businessweek that it dropped dealings with Silvercrest after learning that meat supplied by the distribution company contained horse meat. Burger King went on to say that product from Silvercrest was never sold in their stores. “We will dedicate ourselves to determining what lessons can be learned and what additional measures, including DNA testing and enhanced traceability controls, can be taken to ensure that we continue to provide you with the quality products you expect from us,” Burger King stated in a press release to Newswire. Burger King says they are committed to using suppliers that only produce 100 percent beef products. (does that include cow anus?) |

Aside from eating Flicker, it is really not a big deal. Tons of it are eaten every year. |

Not that I tried or anything, but in Las Vegas you can get most any type meats you like, even in expensive restaurants. Be careful in the south at Jimmy's _Sushi and Bait Shop_. After reading Black Beauty as a child , I could never consider eating a horse. To each his own. I do like gator tail - tastes like chicken! |

Horsing Around wrote:
Burger King To DNA Test Its Beef After Food Processor Used Horse Meat The basis for horse meat being a taboo food in most/many countries is a long and complicated story. Not only does the wiki article say that a Kentucky Derby winner was believed slaughtered for Japanese pet food, but has this par in that regard: // There is a misconception that horses are commonly slaughtered for pet food, however. In many countries, like the United States, horse meat was outlawed in pet food in the 1970s. American horse meat is considered a delicacy in Europe and Japan, and its cost is in line with veal,[36] so it would be prohibitively expensive in many countries for pet food. // http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Horsemeat -- Mike Easter |

What's wrong with eating horse meat? Why is a cow less deserving of your respect? The Europeans have been eating horse meet for a long time now. It is required that if a restaurant serves horsemeat that they have a horsehead symbol outside their entry door. There is no sign, but the head is enough to satisfy the law that it is notifying the unknowing public that horse du jour is on the menu. Steve |
